Some Aceball

Rainbows

Hope this Sunday finds you well. The Moore-Casale Clan went to a game last night and it was one of the best Father’s Day times ev-ah (though the game outcome could have been better).

It was a great night for Aceball and I wish I’d taken more pictures. Here’s the infield with the Reno skyline in the back, and below that is a team official tracking pitch location.

Finally, a pix of Mt. Rose from North Sierra Street.

Sing It Loud

Alane Singing

The above is from last night’s Reno Aces game and the lady doing an excellent job of singing Our National Anthem is none other than the revered Alane Franklin of the Nevada State Division of Child and Family Services. She warmed up the crowd before the Fresno Grizzlies destroyed the Aces by a score of 14 to 3.

There’s more pictures from the ballpark at my Flickr page.

The Reno Aces are always looking for folks to sing the national anthem at home games and more information can be found here. You’ll be asked to send in a video and a proof of sanity.

Wildcat Baseball

Rumor has it we’ve seen the last of winter finally but no one knows for sure (Carson has seen snow in June, after all) but today was too nice to stay inside. I had no idea where I was going when I started today’s ride and you can see below I lollygagged all over the place. The above picture was taken in the upper left hand corner (northwest) of the ride at Western Nevada College, home of the Wildcats. There’s other pictures of the Harvey Field in my Flickr set. What I like here is Dad taking Son to the game. Get them while they’re young and you get them for life.

The Bride and I will probably head out to the gym this afternoon or maybe go for a walk instead. Need to enjoy these good days while they’re here.

And seriously: is there such a thing as too many toys? :)

Why LeBron Is A God & You’re Not

Wow

There was a football game yesterday?

But seriously, folks…

Any questions about the legitimacy of the Cardinals in yesterday’s Super Bowl are gone. Not only did they go toe-to-toe with the best defense in the league, they mounted the most successful comeback in the history of the Super Bowl. The Steelers took advantage of Arizona’s miscues like good teams should and got the luckiest and slowest defensive touchdown ever before halftime. Well done on both for an exciting and memorable game.

The 2009 Nevada Legislative Session convenes today and Governor Gibbons’ budget proposal is on everyone’s mind. A well-known Las Vegas political pundit called this the “One Branch Session” because the Democrats dominate both houses and the Republican members who can mount a protest don’t have the political will to fight for an unpopular executive branch. A budget will pass eventually but my fear is that it will be after July 1, the start of the new fiscal year, and state services will not be funded as a result. All that aside, it’s safe to say this will be the toughest session in anyone’s memory.

I like what President Obama is doing in Washington: taking things slow and easy. He’s gone across the aisle to embrace the Republicans in hopes of getting their support for his economic stimulus package but there’ve been no fireworks or explosions from the White House, a trademark of past administrations. I get the sense that he knows time is on his side and the longer the delay, the easier it is for him to get followers both inside and outside the Beltway. The economy can suck even more than it is today but it’s good to know we have a patient and thoughtful Chief Executive at the helm.

Soon to be heard at every confirmation congressional confirmation hearing: “Thank you for meeting with us, (Mr./Madam) Secretary-select. Have you paid any or all of your taxes recently?

Groundhog Day. Great movie. Strangest weather tradition ever.

Michael Phelps: Convicted of “driving while impaired” when he was 19. Got caught smoking pot at 23. Greatest Olympian Ever. Nice job, kid.

Y’all have a great day.
