Note for Teacher

Did you ever have an unexcused absence from school? Maybe your parents could have saved you some hassles if they’d written you a note but they want to teach you a life lesson?

Maybe you asked the wrong people. Here’s the video and the story:

Whoops

From CNN’s Political Ticker. It’s about the fourth or fifth story down so you’d think they would have fixed this by now…

Edit: the picture was changed to Jay Leno right after I grabbed this print screen.

There was a football game yesterday?

But seriously, folks…

Any questions about the legitimacy of the Cardinals in yesterday’s Super Bowl are gone. Not only did they go toe-to-toe with the best defense in the league, they mounted the most successful comeback in the history of the Super Bowl. The Steelers took advantage of Arizona’s miscues like good teams should and got the luckiest and slowest defensive touchdown ever before halftime. Well done on both for an exciting and memorable game.

The 2009 Nevada Legislative Session convenes today and Governor Gibbons’ budget proposal is on everyone’s mind. A well-known Las Vegas political pundit called this the “One Branch Session” because the Democrats dominate both houses and the Republican members who can mount a protest don’t have the political will to fight for an unpopular executive branch. A budget will pass eventually but my fear is that it will be after July 1, the start of the new fiscal year, and state services will not be funded as a result. All that aside, it’s safe to say this will be the toughest session in anyone’s memory.

I like what President Obama is doing in Washington: taking things slow and easy. He’s gone across the aisle to embrace the Republicans in hopes of getting their support for his economic stimulus package but there’ve been no fireworks or explosions from the White House, a trademark of past administrations. I get the sense that he knows time is on his side and the longer the delay, the easier it is for him to get followers both inside and outside the Beltway. The economy can suck even more than it is today but it’s good to know we have a patient and thoughtful Chief Executive at the helm.

Soon to be heard at every confirmation congressional confirmation hearing: “Thank you for meeting with us, (Mr./Madam) Secretary-select. Have you paid any or all of your taxes recently?

Groundhog Day. Great movie. Strangest weather tradition ever.

Michael Phelps: Convicted of “driving while impaired” when he was 19. Got caught smoking pot at 23. Greatest Olympian Ever. Nice job, kid.

Y’all have a great day.

End of an Error

Posted by Boomer | Politics | Wednesday 13 August 2008 9:19 pm

I’ve got a couple of George W. Bush countdown clocks (including the very bottom of this page) and they read “159 days” as I type this. As we get closer to not having a Bush or a Clinton in office for the first time in twenty years, the political pundits with too much noise in their mouths will soon start to squirm out of the woodwork and pass judgment on a presidency that’s had to deal with some of the nation’s worst crisis in its 200+ year history. I’ll jump the gun a little and, being as qualified as any of them, share my thoughts on the “W” Era.
