Camera Phone

My cell of choice at the moment is an HTC Droid, and as strictly a cell phone, it’s frustrating to use because the stinking screen keeps going to black at key moments. Otherwise, it’s a handy little device with the usual slate of cool Android apps.

The nicest feature is the camera. I don’t know the technical specs except it takes darn nice pictures. Maybe the biggest weakness is I always take pictures slightly askew to the right (easy to fix in Picnik) and it’s be nice if there were an onscreen “leveler” but that’s a minor thing.

Here’s some samples that I keep in the “HTC Droid Pix” set on Flickr. I like landscapes:

Blog Outage?

Posted by Boomer | IT | Monday 31 August 2009 6:30 am

Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting sent out notices they’re upgrading our WordPress blogs sometime in the next couple of weeks and we shouldn’t see any downtime. Based on past performance, I’m a little skeptical of that, so if you get a blank screen or a connection error, fret not. No Safe Place will be back…eventually.

NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander can be seen parachuting down to Mars, in this image captured by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. This is the first time that a spacecraft has imaged the final descent of another spacecraft onto a planetary body.

Have a great week!

Plurk or Twit?

Posted by Boomer | IT | Saturday 14 June 2008 11:32 am

Kicking and screaming, I finally dragged myself into the world of internet social networking and have three spots out the world where you and I can meet up:

Twitter is a post-and-run site where you have to refresh your browser to see the latest entries. The upside is you can follow anyone as long as they don’t block you (/stalker-mode) but this has led to abuse and has some folks disenchanted with it (one person’s experience).

Plurk has an interactive interface that takes a little getting used to and you need permission to become a friend, which in my mind makes it a stronger, more appealing site. I like the karma points, too.

And I haven’t really explored Facebook, yet. Of the three, methinks this would be the one that could suck up the most time and I dunno if I’m ready to go there yet.

At this moment, Plurk has the lead. Feel free to stop by any of the above and say hello.
