This is the world’s most boring blog so let’s get the world’s most boring pictures out of the way.

Four County Ride

The Bride asked me this morning where I was headed and I had a vague idea about a ride up Lakeview. As I was plodding up the V&T bike trail, I remembered I once mulled trying to ride around the five counties in the area. There was no way I could make it to Silver City because this was a lazy biking month for me, but four counties seemed reasonable.

And I did it and this was my longest ride to date but I’m wasted. The upside is today proved I can make the trip to Virginia City or Reno whenever I’m ready.

Lessons learned:

- Plan better next time and take the freaking Camelbak. Duh.
- Flat ground is God’s gift to bikers.
- Small saddle sores can quickly become big saddle sores.
- Gel packs and vitamin water got me through this.
- Advil and sunblock. Duh again.

Lompa Ranch Bike Path

Posted by Boomer | Exercise, Pix, GPS | Sunday 9 August 2009 12:23 pm

Yesterday, there was a surprise on one of the pictures I took from the Fifth Street bridge over the new Highway 395 extension: a bike path. I went for a ride this morning to check it out but promised myself that I would not cross any lines if there were signs and/or barricades blocking the entrance but there weren’t any. The path itself was dried oil and dirt, and it looked like that it was being prepared for asphalt but I had no problems navigating it.

(By the way, I don’t know if it has a name yet but “Lompa Ranch” sounds better than “Prison City”, considering the new road is adjacent to two of Carson City’s medium security prisons.)

This is the east end of the path off of Butti near the sewer plant.

Trip to the Bay

Posted by Boomer | Life, Sports, Exercise, Pix, GPS | Thursday 23 July 2009 7:08 pm

On Tuesday, July 21, I packed up the car and Dollar and we headed down to the Bay Area for the annual birthday trip. The plan was to visit relatives, as well as get some biking and ball games under the belt. Traffic was light all the way down thanks to most decent folks being at work and I got into town way early, so I did a quick walking tour of beautiful downtown Berkeley.

If you haven’t experienced this East Bay town, you’re missing a lot. They don’t have a “big box” store so they haven’t lost their small business store culture and community identity to the Wal-Mart and CostCo giants (yet) and here’s hoping they never do. Pictures cannot do it justice but one thing that stood out was the amount of building construction; these folks never got the memo that there’s a depression or economic downturn or whatever.
