Nevada Centennial Memorabilia
I’ve been meaning to get these pix up here for a while but haven’t had the gumption to get them organized, so I’ll drop a bunch here out of context in hopes of getting some motivation and maybe whetting the old-timers’ appetites a little. Y’all keep nagging me on this.
The Nevada State Library and Archives is a treasure trove of old pictures and one batch there revolves around Nevada’s celebration of its 100th birthday back in 1964. It was quite the big event for the Silver State, as there are dozens of pictures of centennial committee meetings, Nevada Governor Grant Sawyer, celebrities, Governor Sawyer, parades, Governor Sawyer, parties, Governor Sawyer, old Nevada landscapes and citizens, and Governor Grant Sawyer.
It stands to reason that when you throw a big birthday party, you’ve got to have presents and memorabilia, and Nevada and its business partners went the whole hog. There was no text or written outlines stored with these pictures but they pretty much speak for themselves.
One thing’s for sure: if Nevada celebrates its 150th birthday in five years, we won’t get special booze and cigars again (maybe).
