Was taking a nice ride this foine, foine Sunday afternoon when I noticed dark clouds over Douglas County to the south. Folks who’ve lived here for a while will tell you that bad weather usually comes up from the South, but I wasn’t too bothered because it’s happened a thousand times and nothing comes of it. Also, the National Weather Service issued this recent bulletin:

March and April of 2008 have been extremely dry. Only 0.07 inch of precipitation was recorded at the Reno-Tahoe international airport during March. During April only a trace of precipitation was recorded. Total precipitation during these two months averages 1.21 inches.

I was plugging along westbound on College Parkway to pick up chocolate when it dawned on me the winds from the north and west had died down, and were now from the south and getting colder. Those dark clouds from earlier were closer and dumping moisture over the foothills to the far southeast (you really can see forever from around here). I did my shopping at the former Albertsons and decided to head home. If it turned out to be nothing, I mulled, there was nothing preventing me from going out later.

Good choice, as you’ll see after the jump.

    080504 Rain and Hail 2

    080504 Rain and Hail 3

These were taken about an hour after I got home and Carson City got the full package: buckets of rain, wind, lightning, and hail. There for the grace of God…
