    He’s A Bud Man

From the blog Home Run Derby via SI.com, here’s Harry Caray and Steve Stone right after the Cubs clinched post-season play on September 24, 1984.

Miss ya, Harry. You’re one of a kind.

    Nicely Put

This is a short article about gambling, steroids, and sports. Every college athlete should be required write the last quote about a hundred times.

    Quick Post: 5-4-3, TP!

Posted by Bubba on 28th August 2007

Cleveland turned a triple play on the Twins last night, their first in the 21th Century.

And how much fun it is to watch the Yankees lose by more than two touchdowns?

Edit: ESPN took the video off-line. Guess they’re still learning about 21st century bloggers.

August/September is the best time of the sports year. (And depending on how the Cubs/Brewers do this week, maybe October this year.)

    I Am Not A Geek

Posted by Bubba on 27th August 2007

If I were truly a geek, then this blog would have the same, tired picture of one’s equipment…computer equipment, that is:

    I am not a geek

The super-stud laptop on the right got me through classes and job searches and a million other tasks. The newer laptop on the left will help me with the college’s migration to Vista and Office 2007. Because it’s for my night job, it’s a work-related tax write-off (I hope). :)

On this day, the Cubs/D’Back game was playing on the right while I was working (*ahem*) on the left. Love technology!

    Hi, Rich!!!

    Fun at C

Posted by Bubba on 26th August 2007

The Archives has this magnificent picture of Eagle Valley from the Comstock Era. If you look closely at the extra large photo, you’ll find the Capital building in the center with Fifth Street heading east on the right and King Street going west in the center left.

Carson City - The 19th Century View
Courtesy of the Nevada State Library and Archives

    When was this taken?:
    - The federal building on Carson and Telegraph is not there. It was completed in 1890.
    - St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is the white building with the steeple on the left and was completed in 1868.
    - The current museum is on the far left and is doing business as the Carson City Mint. It opened in 1869.

[More editing: As Scott and Sam point out in the comments, that’s the Methodist Church on Musser and Division. The Episcopal Church is hiding behind the Central School to the north.]

And here’s a couple of pictures from this morning from nearly the same place, taken without the benefit of a wide angle lens and a wool coat from the 19th Century.

Edit: Another pix of the valley with some guy standing in the way (holding the old Eagle Valley pix we used to orient ourselves).

    Some Stranger

Here’s those same rocks looking up from the valley floor.
