This is how Liz drives. :-)

It’s pictures like these that’ll get me on the Highway to Hell.  Old quote: “It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.” :-)

Are you a writer?  Here’s a couple of links that may help:

    Rant Follows:

    Get a life...

I stopped watching TV last year because the daughters loudly complained that I watch it with the volume up too high (taste the irony).  Since then, I’ve turned into a bit of a snob on the subject.  I don’t miss TV and am beginning to believe it is both the best and worst invention in Personkind.  From the outside looking in, I see how much influence it has on society.  Let’s be for real: “American Idol” and “Lost” will be trivia questions sooner than we know.

And electronic gadgets like TV are laying waste to, and increasing the waist of, our country.  It’s a bit sad that the local Best Buy is always packed, but the gym rarely is.  The American stereotype among Europeans is an image of fat cowboys.  My doctor told me elementary school kids are getting adult onset diabetes brought on by a sedentary (lazy) lifestyle, a fact supported by this article.

The saddest are “calorically enhanced” people with young kids.  These parents will miss so much of their child’s life due to exhaustion and illness brought on by girth, and their food habits will be passed on to the next generation.

It’d be easy to point the finger at fast food and their additives, but lots of people go to Mickey D’s and don’t look like the Michelin Man.  It’s a matter of choice and personal strength.  I know how hard it is to lose weight because I’m still ”half of a quarter ton” despite months of effort, but I still hope folks get a clue before the hearts give out on them.

    (rant ends)

Had good rides today.  Did the usual 2.2 miles to work this morning, then went for a long one in the afternoon.  East on Fairview, past the prisons to Goni, then west on College Parkway to Albertsons. South on Carson and Mountain to home.  Warm and humid the entire way, and the only non-traffic stop was when I had to clean out my eyes (and for grub, too, natch).  Totals for the day:
    11.8 miles
    59:04 minutes
    650 calories

Will be taking the mandatory three-day break due to the night job.  For now, the stats for the month of May are looking pretty good:  14 rides in 15 days for 71 miles, all outdoors. Quoting baseball: I live for this.
